VISION/MISSION OF THE DIOCESE OF PESHAWAR
“To spread the knowledge of the Gospel, to provide pastoral care, and also be an instrument of service and witness to the whole people of God”
DIOCESE OF PESHAWAR-CHURCH OF PAKISTAN
The Diocese of Peshawar (DoP), whose territory coincides with North West Frontier Province, is one of the eight (8) dioceses that make up the Church of Pakistan (CoP),. The CoP was formed in 1970 as a result of a union between Lutherans, Scottish Presbyterians, Methodists and the Anglicans. The Church of Pakistan has a synod as its supreme governing body.
The Diocese of Peshawar was created in 1980. It is one of the largest dioceses in the country in terms of area. The total number of Christians living in the Province is around one hundred thousand (100,000) out of a provincial population of around seventeen (17) million.
The Diocese of Peshawar is governed by six different Boards, which are:
Mission and Ministry Board: Responsible for 23 parishes and 7 sub-parishes covering the entire North West Frontier Province. Also responsible for women work, youth work, Junior Church, prison ministry, healing ministries, inter-faith relations, and Open Theological School.
Education Board: Responsible for 13 schools, 3 colleges, 2 hostels, 1 vocational training center, two computer literacy centers, and one English language programme centre.
Health Board: Responsible for 2 Mission Hospitals (Bannu & Peshawar)., 2 mother and child care centers, 1 center for the mentally and physically handicapped children.
Property Board: Responsible for all the properties of the Diocese scattered in the entire Province.
Finance Board: Responsible for the financial control and resources of the Diocese.
Development & Relief Board: Responsible for the community up-lift through adult education, basic health and hygiene awareness, including HIV/Aids, and sanitation, Micro-Credit Scheme, Apprenticeship Scheme, capacity building, human resources development, and performance and evaluation of the Diocese. The Relief desk is always ready to extend all possible assistance in the disaster management.
All the boards are answerable to the Diocesan Executive Committee. Each Board has a Secretary who is accountable to the Diocesan Secretary. All the Secretaries are answerable to the Bishop of Peshawar or his appointed representative(s). The bishop as the Diocesan President along with three Vice-Presidents and the Diocesan Secretary are custodians of the Diocesan Constitution,
properties and all other assets. The policies of the entire Diocese are made at the Diocesan Council that normally meets once every three years but can also meet once a year.
With the support of friends, donors and well-wishers, the Diocese has managed to devise an effective and practical organizational and administrative structure.

Experiences and capabilities of the Diocese of Peshawar,
The Diocese of Peshawar has a solid infrastructure, and enough volunteers, and full time workers to carry out the work of the Diocese. All the volunteers and workers contribute their time, skills and energy for the survival and the identity of the Church in this part of the world.
It is worth noting:
At the time of the Afghan refugees influx, the Diocese of Peshawar was the first one to respond to the situation through its medical teams, and with volunteers for relief operations.
In addition to different humanitarian services, the Diocese feels proud to be the pioneer in introducing the following in the North West Frontier Province:
Care and rehabilitation for the leprosy patients
First school, resource and training base for the mentally challenged children.
Centre for the physically disabled with community directed approaches.
HIV/AIDS awareness project.
Diocesan medical, educational and community development services have gained a considerable recognition in the country.
